How different would the world have looked had the Nazis been first to build an atomic bomb?  This historical drama explores how close they may have been by imagining a posthumous reunion of Werner Heisenberg and Niels Bohr, two powerhouses of theoretical physics, who famously and mysteriously met in Copenhagen in 1941.

Historians have long argued over what might have been said at this meeting – was Heisenberg trying to gather information about the allied programme, or warn Bohr of the existence of a German one?  Was he looking for technical help or moral reassurance?

This furiously paced three-hand play leads the audience comfortably through the necessary science, and invites them to consider the uncertainty of history.

Incrementum Directors Thomas Probert (top: Don Carlos, 2009) and Myfanwy Hill (middle: Duchess of Malfi, 2008) are joined for the first time by Ben Donaldon (bottom).

Nadia Blye is a former war-correspondent turned political scientist at Yale. Meeting her English boyfriend’s father, Oliver, for the first time at his remote house in Shropshire, she is immediately forced to defend her interventionist stance on the 2003 Iraq War.  The fiery debate gradually unravels to reveal two complex characters, both carrying their own burdens of the past.

Questions of the political, the personal, and the private pervade this subtle exploration of passion and war.  Along with their starkly different conclusions about foreign policy, Oliver and Nadia complicated loves and losses scar them just as deeply.

From the author of Stuff Happens and The Power of Yes, this play was premiered in New York in 2005.

Incrementum is delighted to welcome back Rosie Isles (top: Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, 2006) and Nick Tyrell (middle:  Duchess of Malfi, 2008), working for the first time with Joe Gaminara (bottom) in the leading roles of Nadia, Oliver and Phillip.
